LEARN from yesterday! LIVE for today!HOPE for tomorrow!

It’s a brand new year – with brand new possibilities!

Lizelle CoombsAs we step into an uncertain 2021, we should perhaps take a moment to reflect on all that shaped our paths in 2020, learning from the challenges and taking from it all the positive inputs, to encourage us today – and give us the hope we need for tomorrow! Wishing all our friends, clients and colleagues the best of health and abundance as we continue growing and making changes in our communities in 2021.

Thank you for supporting Angels and helping us to make an impact in the rural communities of South Africa.

Here’s more from Sheila…

“I have always loved numbers, so joining the finance team in December was a dream came true for me. At the moment, I am doing the consignment reports for all the products that we sell on behalf of our entrepreneurs.
I also do quotations and invoicing, using QuickBooks and Xero, filing and all our CIPC compliance etc. The best thing about what I do is …I ENJOY DOING IT! I love my job and what I do at Angels Resource Centres.”

ANGELS IN ACTION

Soetwater Environmental Camp – Kommetjie, Cape Town
During the December holidays we hosted a youth leadership camp sponsored by Matla-A-Bokone Solar. In serious CV-19 safety mode, we had lots of fun and adventure with the group of 50 learners from the Northern Cape. Soetwater Environmental Camp in Kommetjie safely hosted the group. Many of the Learners had never left the Northern Cape and it was a privilege to have them with us on the camp in Cape Town. Leadership Skills, Gender based Violence, toxic masculinity and many more lessons were incorporated into the fun and relevant activities. LISTEN TO RSG RADIO INTERVIEW HERE

Food consumption trends for 2021
In 2021 many SA consumers will look for food at more affordable prices, in traditional trade outlets, such as unbranded retail, spaza shops, markets and tabletops. Places where they don’t have to incur travel costs and can top up with essential items on an immediate-needs basis and in smaller quantities.

Covid 19 – food consumption facts:

  • Food security involves more than only consuming adequate energy; dietary diversity is a critical contributor the people’s overall health status.
  • The affordability of a nutritionally diverse food basket is a significant challenge to a large percentage of the population in South Africa;
  • Basic “healthy” eating is not within reach of the least affluent 50% of SA households;
  • The average portion of household food expenditure spent in low income groups on foods containing only plant-sourced products, (starchy foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes) is 46%.
  • For the struggling consumer (Covid-19 loss of income), a small luxury could be something as simple as a box of biscuits, and that item now represents a significantly greater portion of a much tighter budget.

This highlights the importance of Angels rural development projects, assisting both rural and metropolitan micro-farmers and local entrepreneurs, enabling them to generate their own income, become sustainable and supply essential foods and services to meet the needs of their communities.
